Weekly Update February 7, 2020

Hi San Tan Families,
What a week we have experienced!
We began our study of insects and have made tiny habitats of plasticine clay for them after watching a National Geographic video. We made clay hardening insects which will be baked over the weekend and then assimilate into their new habitat on Monday. The children wrote facts about insects for their Animal Characteristic Folders which were displayed at the STEM/Science Fair last Friday and which were sent home. We will continue to study and write about reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. I will save their writing and give them to you at conferences in March, and you may add it to their folders if you wish.
SPELLING WORDS for Friday, February 14 are: bird, girl, dirt, first, chirp. Bonus Words are: shirt, skirt, circle, circus, birthday.
MATH – Word problems with multiple steps, and adding multiple digits in expanded form: 45 + 32 = 40 +5 and 30 +2 =70 + 7 = 77
ELA – capitalization of I, beginning of sentences, days of the week. Adding -ing and -ed to short vowel words and words ending in magic e.
Friday, February 14, 12:40-2:40 -Valentine/Friendship/ AZ Birthday celebration centers. If you did not sign up on the Sign Up genius, kindly let me know if you are coming so we can divide up the extra volunteers. We are making valentine bags in class.
