Hi Gregersen San Tan Families,
We have had an energizing first two days of school. We begin each day with a Morning Meeting and right now we are focusing on games to help us learn each others’ names. We played the games Roll, Roll the Ball and Say Your Name. Thursday we read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes and discussed the absolute perfectness of our names. Friday we read This School Year Will Be THE BEST! by Kay Winters. We each named something we want to learn this year and drew a picture and labeled it.

We talked about how to grip a pencil. Ask your child to show you the PINCH AND FLIP method of pencil holding.

We are discussing routines for taking care of ourselves, each other, and our world.

Our Math Center included: Dice Roll, Pentaminoes, Pattern Blocks, and Round Up (a logic game). We played a cooperative game where we held number cards and tried to put ourselves in numeric order without talking.

We celebrated our first class birthday by singing Happy Birthday several times during the day, signing a birthday card, putting a poster outside our door, letting the birthday boy lead the line and be teacher helper, and sharing a book that the birthday boy brought in.

A gentle reminder that we are a nut free school.

Check out your child’s Agenda. We wrote the theme for the week and a friend’s name.

Next week I will be working on assessment for reading and math levels.

We have an energetic and kind group of children. Thank you for a wonderful beginning of the year.
Ms. Gregersen
