Hi San Tan Parents,
We had a very exciting week with two special projects, both science related.
In our study of animal classification criteria, we moved on to the topic of BIRDS. We used Mystery Science to explore different kinds of bird beaks and did a cooperative group experiment using bent straws and clipped cups to simulate a warbler beak and a duck beak. We discovered that the straw beak was much easier to use when picking up food mixed with rocks, and the duck beak was easier to use when scooping food from the water.
Our second exciting activity was STEM Friday. This week’s challenge was based on a snow theme, so we imagined ourselves up in the mountains with fresh snow covering everything. The children created a sled that could carry two playdoh people down a 12 inch long slope! Thanks to all of you for sending in supplies to make this possible.
The PBIS store was open on Friday and the children used their positive behavior points to buy experiences or items from the store.
I am so glad with the way you are helping your child learn spelling words. There was a significant improvement from everyone on this week’s words. Next week the words are -er words: her, otter, ever, bigger, better, Bonus Words – desert, winter, under, batter, letter.
